This week I voted against a proposed bill that would work to take public lands away from the citizens. The bill that went before the House would create a council elected by the majority party that would work to advise the legislature on policies relating to federal lands. The majority justified this action by stating that state sovereignty is at risk, however, it’s clear that this committee would only work to privatize lands. I believe that establishing this committee would take away both public recreation areas as well as beneficial wildlife habitats. Although the bill still did pass the House, I don’t support the action to take federal lands away from the people.
